TalleyCon 2023: An Unforgettable Conference for the Talley Team

A note from our President, Joe Sapp.

As an employee-owned company, our success relies on the dedication and hard work of our employees. We recognize the importance of investing in their professional development and creating a positive work culture. That's why we hosted our first ever employee conference, TalleyCon 2023, to provide our staff with an opportunity to connect, learn, and have fun. As this was our first ever employee conference, I wanted to share a bit more about it.

First, I want to thank our partners at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The hotel was a great venue for our event. We also could not have done this event without our friends from IMS Technologies. Their AV team knocked it out of the park as usual.

As a majority virtual/work-from-home company, we realize how important it is to take advantage of bringing our team together to learn and connect. While working remotely has been a positive change for our company, there is no denying the power of meeting face to face.

Learning about our Team

TalleyCon 2023 provided our employees with valuable networking opportunities. We kicked off the conference with a Working Genius assessment of our entire team led by Master Vistage Chair, Carol Steinberg. What a fun experience it was for our team to learn more about their Working Genius type and how it fits with their colleagues.

Having our team complete the Working Genius assessment also opened eyes on how applicable this sort of assessment could be for our client partners and their leadership. These types of assessments not only help foster a great working relationship between boards and their staff team, they can be used by boards to help assess potential board members as they consider nominations for future positions.

Learning Sessions

At TalleyCon 2023, we offered a variety of learning sessions to help our employees grow professionally. We brought in industry experts to lead sessions on topics such as critical thinking, effective communication, and project management. Our employees left these sessions feeling inspired and equipped with new skills and strategies to bring back to their work.

Our focus this year with educational sessions was geared towards our team as a work from home team. This included sessions on leading virtual teams and having difficult conversations. These topics are extremely important in not just managing a staff team, but in how we interact with our volunteer leadership as well. Refining our virtual work skills was a key part of TalleyCon. Not only does it help us work better as a team for our clients, but it also allows us to work with our clients in a more effective way. We’re excited to bring this knowledge into our everyday tasks.

Fun and Relaxation

Finally, TalleyCon 2023 wasn't all work and no play! We made sure to schedule time for fun and relaxation. We hosted a company-wide reception at the Marriott’s new bowling alley. Aside from the bowling there was great food and drink while our team was able to unwind and connect. These fun and relaxing activities allowed our team to recharge and come back to work feeling refreshed.

Overall, TalleyCon 2023 was an incredible experience for our association management company's employees. It provided valuable networking opportunities, learning sessions, team building activities, and fun and relaxation. We believe that investing in our employees' professional and personal growth is essential to our success as a company. We can't wait to see what our team will accomplish in the coming year!
